Environmental Responsibility: E-Waste (IT electronic equipment and scrap) is one of the fastest growing waste streams in the industrialized world, mainly due to the growing sales and rapid obsolescence of these products. E-Waste is also one of the largest known sources of heavy metals and organic pollutants in the waste stream. Without effective phase-outs of hazardous chemicals and the development of effective collection, reuse and recycling systems, highly toxic chemicals found in electronics will continue to contaminate soil and groundwater as well as pollute the air, posing a threat to our environment, wildlife and mankind. Toxic materials in computer components include lead and cadmium in computer circuit boards, lead oxide and barium in cathode ray tubes (up to 4lbs!), mercury in switches and flat screens, and brominated flame retardants on printed circuit boards, cables and plastic casing. Everyone knows why they should recycle; some of us just don’t know how to go about it. At PC Worldwide it is a big part of what we do. We can help get you green and keep you in compliance with all the various state and federal regulations. |
